We always underline the importance of design in any context, whether it is related to physical spaces or virtual ones. In our opinion, one of the most important designs is the one of the products.
When buying a product, consumers consider various things like the characteristics, the price, the availability, the life expectancy and also the social values associated with it. An important element, however, is the actual design of the product that can make it stand out from the competition.
A 2018 study has shown exactly that. It investigated the motivations behind a customer’s preference toward a particular mobile phone. The design of the mobile phone seems to be the most influential factor followed by the technical characteristics and functionality.
Interestingly, the social value or the colour of the phone matters less than expected. The researchers showed that the most sold phones were flat screens with rounded edges and sizes between 4.7’’ and 5.5’’.
The smaller details can have a profound impact on the preferences and behaviour of consumers. This is why it is so important to pay as much attention to details as possible when designing products.
